Can the new Express Entry points tell us what the next CRS cutoff will be? No. Starting November 3, 2026, IRCC will award points for either eligible Canadian work experience in a high-wage occupation or a qualifying high-wage job offer. Candidates who qualify under both options will receive whichever gives them more points. They cannot combine the two scores. Canada.ca
IRCC will also recalculate existing Express Entry profiles. That process could take up to two weeks. IRCC says it will pause invitation rounds during the recalculation and resume them when the process is complete. Canada.ca
How many new CRS points can candidates receive?
The points depend on the high-wage level IRCC assigns to the occupation’s NOC code. The classification uses national wage data for that occupation. It does not depend on the candidate’s individual salary. Canada.ca
| Occupation’s wage level | Job offer points | Additional Canadian work experience points |
|---|---|---|
| At least 2 times the average median wage | 100 | 70 |
| At least 1.5 times, but less than 2 times | 70 | 40 |
| At least 1.3 times, but less than 1.5 times | 50 | 20 |
The work experience points above are additional high-wage points. Eligible candidates also receive CRS points based on the length of their Canadian work experience. To qualify for high-wage experience points, they generally need at least 12 months, or 1,560 hours, of qualifying Canadian experience. Canada.ca
What does this mean for NOC 11201?
IRCC currently places NOC 11201, Professional occupations in business management consulting, in the 1.5-times-to-under-2-times wage tier. A qualifying job offer in this occupation could therefore receive 70 CRS points under the new rules. Canada.ca
A candidate with at least 12 months of eligible Canadian experience in an occupation at this wage level may qualify for 40 additional high-wage experience points, plus work-length points. IRCC compares that work-experience score with the qualifying job-offer score and uses whichever is higher.
A NOC listing alone does not prove that a person’s duties match that code or that their job offer qualifies. IRCC assesses the actual job and whether the offer meets its requirements.
Why can’t we calculate the next Express Entry cutoff yet?
The new CRS points may change candidates’ scores and positions in the pool. But those changes alone cannot predict the next cutoff.
IRCC chooses the round type and invitation count. It then invites the highest-ranking candidates who qualify for that round. Category-based rounds also have their own eligibility requirements. Canada.ca
Recent rounds show why candidates should compare cutoffs within the same selection category. On October 27, IRCC invited 5,000 candidates in a French-language round at a CRS cutoff of 407. The next day, a Transport Occupations round invited 150 candidates at a cutoff of 477. Those rounds targeted different groups, so one cutoff does not predict the other. Canada.ca
What should Express Entry candidates do now?
If you may qualify for job-offer points, review your Express Entry profile and add the required offer details before November 3. IRCC has specifically advised candidates to check that their information is complete and accurate. Canada.ca
Then check your NOC against IRCC’s high-wage occupation list. If you have both eligible Canadian work experience and a qualifying job offer, compare the two Labour Market Integration scores. Treat any November CRS cutoff forecast as an estimate, not a guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine job-offer points with Canadian work experience points?
No. IRCC compares the two options and awards the one that gives you the higher score under the Labour Market Integration factor.
Do my personal earnings determine whether my NOC is high-wage?
No. IRCC assigns the wage level using national median wage data for the NOC. Your individual salary does not determine the occupation’s classification. Canada.ca
Will the new CRS points lower the next Express Entry cutoff?
Not necessarily. The new points may change candidate rankings, but each cutoff also depends on the round type, the number of invitations and the scores of candidates eligible for that round.
