Canada has recently expanded the opportunities for refugees and displaced individuals to continue their careers in the country through the launch of two new streams under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP). This initiative allows refugees to leverage their acquired skills, training, education, and experience, hence reducing the need for them to start their careers from scratch upon migration.
The two newly introduced streams are designed to make the immigration process more accessible and efficient. One is intended for those who already have a job offer from a Canadian employer, while the other is for highly-skilled refugees without a job offer but with high-demand skills.
Through the EMPP Federal Skills Job Offer Stream, Canadian employers can tap into a global talent pool of displaced individuals to fill various in-demand positions, such as nurse aides, software engineers, logistics workers, and more. The EMPP Federal Skills Without a Job Offer Stream is a pioneering approach to recognizing the potential of refugees who possess highly demanded skills, facilitating their seamless integration into the Canadian job market.
This move doesn’t only provide an economic boost by filling in-demand jobs but also solidifies Canada’s humanitarian commitments. It is seen as a step forward in making Canada’s immigration system more responsive to economic and humanitarian needs and serves as a model for labor mobility programs for other countries.
This initiative is a clear indication of Canada’s commitment to tapping into overlooked talent and providing displaced individuals with the opportunities to thrive, thereby benefiting both the individuals and the communities that welcome them. This effort is particularly crucial as Canada embraces its role as Chair of the Global Taskforce on Labour Mobility.
The development of these new streams signifies Canada’s dedication to creating more pathways for refugees and other displaced individuals to immigrate and continue their careers in the country, illustrating a holistic approach to migration that recognizes the skills and potential of displaced individuals.
