It specifically targeted candidates with particular work experience or proficiency in the French language, offering them the opportunity to apply for permanent residence.
Fast forward to the present, the Honourable Marc Miller, the newly appointed Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced on August 1 that the first round of trades-focused category-based selection would be commencing this week. This unprecedented focus on individuals with expertise in trades – such as carpentry, plumbing, and welding – is projected to bolster Canada’s construction sector by drawing in skilled tradespeople from across the globe.
The implementation of category-based selection demonstrates Canada’s steadfast commitment to attracting top-tier global talent, fulfilling the escalating need for tradespeople to uphold the economy. These specialized selection rounds will be held periodically throughout the year, running parallel to the general invitation rounds. The IRCC is expected to release further details regarding the system’s operation and future rounds in the upcoming weeks.
